E: This Day & Age has been making more and more of a name for itself ever since the debut record came out on 111 Records. As a band, have you seen any elements of making music change since you've been achieving more?
Jeff: We are just maturing, and becoming more creative. We do not want to blend it.
E: How easy is it for you to track your success? Is it obvious to you when you begin to attain a greater fanbase?
Jeff: To a certain extent, yes, I'd say so... the main way is attendance at shows.
E: How strategic does a band have to be when it makes touring plans? Do you have a strong voice in where and when you tour, or do you leave most of that in the hands of your booking agent?
Jeff: We leave that mostly up to our agent. We let them know cities we do well in, and then they see who they can get us out with.
E: When you're living a lifestyle that is greatly dominated by constant touring, do you ever feel like you're trading in a lot of more typical life experiences in exchange for the band experience?
Jeff: At times... but music is our passion, and there's nothing else we'd rather be doing... and I feel like the "band experience" prepares you more for the future.
E: As a 111 Records band, how much of a relationship do you think you've formed with other members of that family?
Jeff: We've become friends with all the bands on the label... and the Spill Canvas are our best friends!
E: Has it sunk in at all that you are now in a position where fans look up to you the way you've looked up to your favorite bands?
Jeff: Yes--and that's crazy!
E: Is This Day & Age a band that stays closely tied to its fans?
Jeff: Yes, we try to act in a way where kids can see that we don't put ourselves above them... that we are on the same level as everyone.
E: Does the band have a single philosophy or ambition that fuels and motivates its music?
Jeff: We just want to write memorable music that sets new standards.
E: And do you anticipate having a lasting impact on the music scene as a band?
Jeff: That is our hope, and we will do our best to make it a reality.
