E: Dennis, Madison has been accumulating fans rapidly over the past few months... how well have things been going recently for the band?
Dennis: Things have been going so well for us this summer. With Warped Tour and the PureVolume tour drawing so many kids, it's easy to get our name and music out, and kids have been responding amazingly.
E: Do you think that the PureVolume tour has been a better experience in the fact that it's not so easy to get lost on the list among so many other bands?
Dennis: Oh yeah, absolutely. I mean, as awesome it is to be on Warped, you're not really playing to all the people that go--on the PureVolume tour, everyone at the show gets to see us and hear us, so it makes it a lot less stressful trying to guess how many kids are coming out to watch you that night. On the other hand, promoting your band at Warped is probably one of the most helpful things a band can do, just because there are so many people who are willing to hear new music.
E: You guys are yet another band representing from out of New Jersey. There has been a new flood of bands from that scene--do you think Jersey could be "the" new music scene, a role originally held by California?
Dennis: Well, I mean, to me Jersey is the new music scene, but I guess if I lived in California I'd feel that way about it, just because that is what you are exposed to... but the scene in New Jersey is the most amazing thing ever. Kids just love music here, and love to support it. It's not often you see a sh*tty local show here. There are always people there to watch bands--it's awesome.
E: What bands have you seen coming out lately that you think could be called the next wave of great music?
Dennis: Bands like HelloGoodbye and Head Automatic. It seems like dance music is getting pretty popular, which is really awesome because dance music is so much fun.
E: I like Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer.
Dennis: I haven't really heard much of their music... should I check it out?
E: Definitely. So back to the PV tour--is this your first time on the road with all the bands on that set?
Dennis: Yeah. I mean, we have played tons of shows with Hidden In Plain View and Houston Calls because we're all from Jersey, but this is the first time we're on tour with them, and we never played a show with HelloGoodbye till this tour... but it's a really amazing tour. Everyone is so close and we all have so much fun together, we couldn't have asked for a better tour this summer.
E: So all the bands have been getting along pretty well?
Dennis: Oh, it's amazing. We try to stay together as often as possible, even though sometimes it just doesn't work out like that. We play dodge ball after the shows, sometimes. It's just so much fun being with these bands.
E: Have you been having meals together?
Dennis: Well, like if we're following each other to a show we will eat lunch together, and stuff like that, or if we get catered at the show we will eat together.
E: How soon do you plan to record again once you get home?
Dennis: Well, the plan is to write in between tours. We already have a couple songs done, but we want to put out a full length this time, so it's going to take a while to write all the songs, because we are the slowest writers ever... but hopefully we will be able to record in February. We want the next record to be amazing, so we're just going to write a lot of songs and pick out the best ones.
E: With the recognition you've been getting--which I'm sure the tour will only add to--are there plans to join up with a label to release the future recording?
Dennis: Well, we haven't really spoken to anyone yet, but we hope that these next couple of tours we do help us get some label attention. That and our indie CD sales.
E: Your EP was released with Fidelity Records--what did they do to help you with the release?
Dennis: Fidelity has been so amazing to us--they paid for us to press our CD, paid for some promotions, are putting it into distro just because they are good friends of ours and wanted to help us out.
E: So do you think that it can only get better from here on out?
Dennis: I hope so. We have been working so hard to make this band our jobs and our lives. I don't think any of us would ever want things to not work out.
E: Thanks for interviewing--have fun on tour!
Dennis: Hey, no problem.
