E: So the International Businessmen are a band that's been operating out of Seattle, Washington. How would you describe the band's origins?
Gary: We all came from different bands that were just kind of "weekend warriors," and we decided to get serious... because music has been a huge part of our lives, and we'd like to travel and make some sort of living at it.
Lance: Dude, I totally agree.
Haas: Sounds good--that's always a hard question. Basically we don't want regular jobs, and we can wake up hung over to practice or go to a show, drive miles away to make twenty bucks just to play music... it's simply our life, not to mention all the things we have given up just to follow our dream.
E: Do you think that in order to go as far as you can go, you'll have to get out of Seattle?
Lance: Yeah, sure. You gotta expand yourself. You gotta go to other states and cities to show who you are.
Haas: That's why we're gonna be touring and sh*t as much as possible.
E: What's been big with the band lately?
Gary: We recorded our new album The Formula in December and are set for release officially June 7, I believe, and we're heading on the road to support the album on March 18th. You can also expect to hear us on local college stations across the country starting mid-March. Also, Lance learned to ride a bike. We're pretty happy about that.
E: And what's this I hear about a movie soundtrack?
Gary: I guess Celine Dion was unavailable, so they put a couple of our songs in the teen horror movie The Choke. You'll see it on HBO and in your local movie stores soon. Oh, and pay-per-view.
E: Do you write a lot of songs as a band, or just a few that you spend a lot of time on?
Haas: It goes both ways. We write lots of songs and everyone always comes up with their own ideas, but in the end it comes down to if we all agree on the jam and like it. We also let some of our peers/friends check 'em out and ask what they think. There's a lot of sh*t that gets thrown in the trash or backlogged to never see the light of day.
Lance: I still want to do a metal song.
Gary: But he's always getting shot down.
E: How serious is this band for all of you?
Gary: I want to tattoo our band name on my forehead, that's how serious I am.
Haas: Now I'd say it's getting serious. Some of us have put off going back to school or future plans so we can keep hearing from friends and family, "So you're still doing the band thang?"
E: Any girlfriends getting added in to all this chaos?
Lance: I can't seem to hold onto one through all this chaos and it is very time consuming.
E: Have you been taking in enough money to make band expenditures an easy thing to handle?
Haas: Barely. Hopefully with the release of our new CD, we will start to make a lil' cash back.
E: And when's that due?
Haas: Press release date is June 7th, although we are having a sneak peak presale on March 12th for some of our more intimate fans here in Seattle. With fireworks and everything... total liquidation.
E: Is this your first release?
Lance: No.
Haas: This is our first full length, but we had two EP's before this release. The first was Classified and the second was Confidential.
E: And how has this record done with representing your current progress as a band?
Haas: We've had the courage to release some material on this album that we're interested in without trying to appeal to a specific peer group.
Gary: The new album has a more mature sound and represents a variety of our influences.
E: Which are?
Gary: That's a pretty large list, let's see...
Lance: My Chemical Romance, Beastie Boys, Slipknot, Otep, CCR.
Haas: 7 Seconds, Misfits, Beach Boys, Strung Out, Pennywise. Chaz likes Damn Yankees.
Gary: Def Leppard, Poison.
E: Well thanks a lot... anything left you want to say?
Gary: Thanks a lot for taking the time.
