E: Farewell is a North Carolina band making an explosive appearance with EP "Poisoning the Lark" to be rereleased on new label Forsaken Recordings... so how good to you feel about this whole band thing about now?
Marshall: We are really excited to see how things take off after this release. We've been working really hard to get some label support and we feel lucky to be part of the Forsaken family. The response has been great so far.
Buddy: Yeah.
E: In what areas will the new sign definitely be giving you a hand?
Marshall: Basically, we'll be getting national distro through Lumberjack, and Forsaken will be helping us push the record as far as we can get it.
Ryan: They will be doing magazine spots, lots of online promotion, and tour support.
E: Do you plan on working to get something new recorded and released within the near future? Or are tour plans more closely in sight?
Marshall: Both.
Chris: We will be touring for the first half of the summer, and we'll be heading into the studio at the end of August to record the full length.
Ryan: Yeah, we will be doing the record at Engine Studios in Chicago (Alkaline Trio, Wilco, Modest Mouse) with producer Marc McClusky.
E: How long have you been home?
Marshall: We've been home since New Year's... trying to write some new material and shooting the video for "Kelley Green". In March, our bassist left the band, and we've been doing try-outs to find a replacement.
Buddy: ...and I slaughtered them all.
Ryan: And we've been doing a lot of shows around NC, VA, SC trying to build up the fan base even more.
E: What do you think are the band's strong points to offer to listeners?
Ryan: A very strong and intense live show.
Marshall: We work extremely hard to be active with our fans. We always take the time to listen, and we'll play every show we can... even if it's at some high school.
Chris: We feel like our music is catchy without being repetitive and we put thought into the lyrics and mean what we say.
Buddy: Brand new flava in your ear!!!!
E: The band is made up of six members--which could be called a pretty big number. Does that ever present problems?
Marshall: *Laughs* Yeah... it is complicated. There are pros and cons to having six guys. We get to have six different points of view and we all come from different musical backgrounds... but the writing process takes a bit longer we all have to agree before the song is finished.
Chris: Yeah, writing can be tedious, but we end up with a great song. Luckily, we all get along and have the bands best interests in mind.
Buddy: Splitting the free pitchers at venues can get tough *Laughs*
E: How often do you find yourselves working on a song?
Marshall: We are always trying to write and improve on songs we've already recorded.
E: Is it difficult to make sure that you don't let yourselves be too influenced by other groups' material you've recently heard...? Subconsciously ripping off other songs?
Marshall: No, not at all. We try not to think about the other "popular songs" on the radio. The fact is, every hook has been written before. There is no way to avoid having parts of your music remind someone of another band that is how humans work--we try to relate everything.
Ryan: Also, it's our job to improve upon the music that has hit the mainstream... so that people have exciting things to listen to.
E: So do you think Farewell tracks fit comfortably on a mix tape with most other recent bands?
Marshall: I would say they fit, but they add contrast to the watered-down bands. We listen to a lot of popular music, but we also love the classics. I wouldn't want our music to be completely unfamilar to listeners we do need to put food on the table.
Chris: We would go well on a mix tape, but we'd stand alone on it. We have an honest sound, and I think listeners recognize that.
E: So what would be the band's most rewarding moments?
Marshall: Our favorite part of being in this band is when we get on stage and play, and we have kids screaming and singing along.
Ryan: Yeah, the best memory I have is when we got back from tour last fall and played our CD release in Greensboro. It was the best feeling having all of our hometown fans going crazy and welcoming us home.
Chris: I was so excited when we got signed to Forsaken. It was such a good feeling knowing that we'd have some help.
Buddy: I can't wait to make new memories with these guys. They are great friends and I couldn't ask for a more positive band to be in.
E: Well thanks a whole lot, and keep on producing great music like you have.
Marshall: Thanks so much--take care.
